National Center for Environment and Sustainable Development (NCESD)
The NCESD is a central government entity acting as a body governed by private law. It is supervised by the Ministry of Environment and Energy. It is Greece’s lead consultant for environment and sustainable development. It collects and records environmental information, conducts environmental research and studies, supports the Ministry of Environment and Energy in fulfilling the country’s reporting obligation to the European Commission and the European Environmental Agency, disseminates environmental policies and raise public awareness of environmental and sustainable development issues.
Within the LIFE-IP AdaptInGR, the NCESD is responsible for the development, operation and maintenance of the national adaptation knowledge hub and for coordinating the analysis of synergies and trade-off between mitigation and adaptation policies in Greece. Furthermore, the NCESD participates in tasks relating to adaptation monitoring and evaluation, as well as dissemination and knowledge transfer activities, particularly at the international level. The NCESD will continue to maintain, update and enhance the national adaptation knowledge hub after the end of the project; as well as to monitor and evaluate adaptation policy progress across Greece, in line with its overall mandate.
